3E

It was nice to have Shigeru back. We were talking a little before everyone arrived and he is planning a trip to Europe next spring. He is planning to go to Germany, England and Scotland. It sounds like he is doing a lot of reading to get ready.

We continued with the second half of Unit 9A. Today we practiced giving advice to someone who has a health problem. I asked what you would tell someone who had a bad hangover. There were several different answers, but no one had heard the saying, a little hair of the dog that bit you. I have heard it used many times, but I didn't know the origin. If you go to this site you can find the answer and the meaning of many other animal related phrases.

The winter vacation homework is to keep an English journal. Try to write down the interesting things you see and do. We will talk about them the first class.

For the last class of the year almost everyone was here. Only Mayumi (She will miss the first two classes next year, too.) and Kumi were absent. We did the pair work and people compared their opinions about different topics. People did a good job staying in English and communicating their ideas.

The homework for the next lesson is on page 70. Also during the break try to do some English. Look at the links on the left side of the page. There are links for listening, reading and language drills.

I hope to see some of you at the party next Wednesday but if I don't have a good holiday season.

Congratulations! You did an excellent with today's activity. You had to give your opinion on some difficult topics and you did it with little or no Japanese. Even the people who finished the activity a little early continued talking in English about a variety of topics.

It looks like almost everyone in this class is going to come to the Christmas party. It will be a lot of fun and I look forward to speaking with you at the party; in English of course!

The homework for winter vacation is to write a letter like the one on page 70.
