Only Miho again tonight. We talked a lot about her graduation thesis and how she plans to do the research. We also talked about her experiences in Australia. She used the word sharemate and I wasn't familiar with it. She said it is used instead of roommate. She had some different living situations during she her stay, but didn't have any trouble.

Next we will definetly start Unit 8.

A few people were missing tonight, but I expected a smaller class because of the snow yesterday.

We talked about cultural differences and if you look at the morning class you will find a link to a good site. In the warm up you had to work with a partner an come up with ideas of what foreigners impressions of Japan are. People came up with some very good examples.

The homework for next week is the word preview in Unit 11.

Mitsue couldn[base ']t make it today because she was still shoveling snow. It is a good idea to take it slow with this snow because it is wet and heavy. It would be very easy to hurt your back.

We started talking about cultural differences today and this site for exchange students has some useful information for the United States.

The homework is to do the word preview exercise on page 83.

After people presented their news items I mentioned that a good idea might be to look on the net for articles similar to the one you picked for class and see how some of the terms are used. For example, Miyako[base ']s article was about oil drilling off of Sakhalin. I found this site. It uses many of the words that Miyako wanted to use. Tomie talked about the influenza outbreak and on the web I found this site. The internet is one of the greatest tools for English learners. It unlimited source of study materials. Some the things that you will find are very difficult, but you don[base ']t need to understand everything. Just look for examples of how the words you want to use are presented.

The homework for next week is to do the vocabulary exercises.
