5D We started talking about the 1st amendment to the US constitution and the idea of censorship . Debates (fights) over the 1st amendment are common in the US and with the new anti-terror legislations there will probably be even more. I thought that there would be more interest. People weren't even sure which article was similar in the Japanese Constitution. It seems the similar rights are spelled out in Chapter 3, articles 17,18 19, and 20. I mentioned the idea of self-censorship, but there is also talk of corporate censorship here, but I think this writer's opinion is similar to what Kenji said last night. If you say something there is a chance the a person may take offense and there will be some kind of reaction. Please add a comment 5:52:08 PM     1C Good news from Katsushi tonight. He passed the entrance exam for the high school he wanted to go to. Yukari was back after a few weeks off. She has a band concert this weekend. Masato was absent tonight and after class I ran into his wife. She said he had a PTA meeting. You interviewed you partners about their dream vacations and people had some very interesting trips planned. We also talked about future plans and for some of the younger students the questions were difficult to answer. Next week you need to write five sentences about your future. Makiko's answers were about a trip she is planning to take in May, but Mitsue's were about a trip she hopes to take to Paris someday. We also asked more questions about the future and got some very interesting answers. The homework for next week is to write five sentences about your future. Follow the examples in the book. At the end of class we talked about weddings and I mentioned some movies. Follow these links and read a little about them. If you have time over the long weekend try to watch one. Today was her last class, but I hope that she will be able to come back and visit sometime. English Expo in the fall is a good time to see everyone.
