No big sports fans in this class either. People were able to identify most of the mascots for the World Cup. The British World Cup (1966) was the first to have a mascot. The mascots for the shared Korea/Japan Cup weren't very popular.
We talked about skimming and the importance of using it to help you with your reading comprehension. Many people want to jump right in and start reading, but there are several things you should do before that. One is to look at the title of the article,then make sure to look at the photographs, charts or tables. Finally, make sure to skim the article so that you have an idea of the structure and what the main idea will be. If you follow these steps I think you will find you can read faster and understand more.
There is no class next week so you have some extra homework. Do the vocabulary exercise on page 37. Remember to look for the meaning of the word that best matches the context of the story. Also do all of the Grammar in Detail. Have a nice long weekend. Please add a comment 9:18:13 PM
My Weekend
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I belong to a volunteer group that is working on a project in Obihiro-no-Mori (neat the baseball stadium). On Saturday we got together to work on a nature trail. There are several paths through that part of the forest, but they are big and wide. The one we are making will take people in to the forest and make it easier for them to see different plants and animals. It is an interesting project and I am learning more about the wildlife in the forest.
Sunday I worked out side before it started raining splitting wood and weeding the garden. After it started raining I started on a carpentry project that I have been meaning to do. I made good progress and should be able to finish it up with a couple more hours of work. Please add a comment 12:06:47 PM
