Rieko went to Mt. Fuji last week. She climbed to the top, but the weather wasn't very good. She was only able to see the sunrise one morning. She said it even snowed!
We moved on to Unit 6 tonight. In this unit we are working on adverbs of frequency. People had fun with the practice conversation and the listening exercise wasn't too difficult today. In the exercise the sentence, I am a morning person. came up and I forgot to talk about it. A morning person is someone who is at their best in the morning. They can get out of bed easily and they feel good in the morning. The opposite of that is a night person or sometimes a night owl. I am a morning person. How about you? Atsuko, how was dodgeball? Did you win? In class we continued talking about sports and it turns out that Yumiko and Keiko had similar opinions about the different sports and so did Yoshie and Naoko. The one sport that Yoshie and Naoko really disagreed about was baseball. Yoshie loves baseball and Naoko hates it. Yoshie asked her husband the question I asked last week. When the Ham Fighters move to Hokkaido will the local Yomiuri Giants fans change theirallegiance? I guess his answer was basically who would ask such a silly question! I guess for diehard fans that is a silly question, but I still wonder which is stronger; team or regional loyalty.
At the end of class I asked why in Japan children only play one sport and no one had very clear answer. In our discussion I mentioned that in America most states have a high school athletic association, but after checking on the net I guess is is now called activities not athletic, but you will notice that is mostly athletics. This link will take you to Alaska's.
One last thing. At the end of class I mentioned the problem with organized sports. This article will give you more information. Please add a comment 4:38:36 PM

Mutsuko was enjoying her new electronic dictionary. These new dictionaries can be very easy to use and make it much faster to look up a word, but be careful. I have noticed that when students use the electronic dictionaries they don't read as carefully or think about what kind of word it is; noun, verb, adjective.
The Plaza information corner must be out of pamphlets because it looked like everyone had picked up one to do the homework for today. We worked on making plans which included accepting or declining invitations. We will continue with this next week. For homework make sure to write sentences using the information about your partner's plans for the long weekend. Please add a comment 4:11:06 PM
