We watched the CNN video clip about gold panning. I have done a few times and it is much more difficult than it looks. If you are traveling in Hokkaido this summer you can give it a try in Hamatonbetsu. To learn more about gold mining go to this site.
We also did the reading about Florida and it turns out that I was the only person in the room who had never been there! For some reason I have never had much interest in the part of the country, but I guess would like to go to Key West. I also like some Jimmy Buffett music.
There is no summer vacation homework for this class. After summer vacation we will take a look at the chapters on rural life. Please add a comment 10:07:21 AM

I hope Kazumi tries to speak a lot of English while she is Canada. I am sure she will send us a postcard. Akiko has a fantastic weekend. She went to Sapporo and met her junior high school softball teammates. It was the first time to see them in 17 years and it really brought back the memories. Satoko had a very sad weekend. A close friend of hers, who was only 28, died of cancer. She said she spent most of the weekend crying.
The homework was to describe your favorite place. Mai described a jazz cafe in Shimizu, Akiko a Japanese style pub near her house, Satoko the area around her sofa, Junnichi the chair in his living room, and Ritsuko the area around the dinning room table.
No one, except for Kazumi, has any special plans for summer vacation. Junnichi will be having an exhibition at the Centennial Museum in Midorigaoka Park. It will run from August 3 to 10. Stop by if you have a chance.
Remember the summer vacation homework is to make a collage about you holiday. Please add a comment 10:05:08 AM
