We talked about agriculture and the changes taking place. There was the graph in the book showing the decline in the number of people involved in agriculture in the U.S. I found this site with statistics for Japanese agriculture and if you go to the homepage it will give links to more information about Japanese farming.
The reading talked about sharecropping and tenant farming. I asked about the system before the land reform after the war, but people weren't too sure of the details. This site gives some information about it, but also general information about Japanese agriculture. Please add a comment 8:43:17 PM

Mineko joined us today. She just spent two months studying English in California. Her son is a student at USC. Kazumi had a good time in Canada and it sounds like she was able to use her English. We learned at the end of class that Akiko will be going to Hawaii next. I am sure she will remember to send a postcard.
We started the unit on directions. People had some difficulty with the listening exercises. Too bad we didn't get further along on this unit before Kazumi and Akiko when on their trips.
The homework for next week is to do the Language Check and look around downtown. Make sure to look carefully at building and shop names and where they are located. Please add a comment 2:47:35 PM
