Congratulations to Masami for passing her teaching Japanese as a second language test. She also had a good time in Tawain during the break.
We did the reading by Michael Kinsley which claimed that Orwell had it wrong. I was a little surprised that several people hadn't heard of him. I thought 1984 (this is an online version of the book) and Animal Farm were still required reading in Japan. I haven't read them in a long time, so I think this weekend I will start them again.
We talked about the media and I mentioned weblogs. I think this new type of media is going to have a major impact on the way we get news. Here is a well-known Japanese blogger. Look through his site and follow some of the links to other bloggers and you will start to get a feel for what I am talking about. Please add a comment 1:39:32 PM

This class was full of energy as usual, but everyone's English was a bit rusty after a two week break. Many people had looked at what I wrote about vacation on the site, but they said it was too long. Give it a try one more time. A challenge is a good thing.
We started Unit 10 and talked about the prices of the different items. There was a lot of disagreement about what they should cost. There was also some trouble with the listening exercises, so you should listen to the CD at home.
