Congratulations to Masami for passing her teaching Japanese as a second language test. She also had a good time in Tawain during the break.

We did the reading by Michael Kinsley which claimed that Orwell had it wrong. I was a little surprised that several people hadn't heard of him. I thought 1984 (this is an online version of the book) and Animal Farm were still required reading in Japan. I haven't read them in a long time, so I think this weekend I will start them again.

We talked about the media and I mentioned weblogs. I think this new type of media is going to have a major impact on the way we get news. Here is a well-known Japanese blogger. Look through his site and follow some of the links to other bloggers and you will start to get a feel for what I am talking about.

This class was full of energy as usual, but everyone's English was a bit rusty after a two week break. Many people had looked at what I wrote about vacation on the site, but they said it was too long. Give it a try one more time. A challenge is a good thing.

We started Unit 10 and talked about the prices of the different items. There was a lot of disagreement about what they should cost. There was also some trouble with the listening exercises, so you should listen to the CD at home.

There is no homework for next week.
