Evening Plaza

We had a lot of fun withe Can you....? game. Some people did really well, but the -1 point penalty meant that several people ended up at zero or in the hole (it is the definition at the bottom of the page). After class we had a New Year's party and it was really fun. We spoke a lot of English and got to know a little more about each other.

The homework for next week is to do the writing exercise on page 92. Also think about how to explain Setsubun in English.

Update: The name of the restaurant we went to was Bistro Poele (Nishi-2 Minami-23)

Naoko and Atsuko were impressed that the two students in 4A braved the snow to take pictures of the two monuments. They were going to wait until the snow melted.

We went through the homework and did the listening exercises. The listening practice had to do with the controversies surrounding some famous public buildings. The building of new public building almost always entails some kind of controversy. It can be about the cost, design, location or the need for the building. As mentioned in class I am sure there will be even more controversy over the new Obihiro Library as the construction continues.

Morning Plaza

We are back to the regular numbers. Today we had 16 or 17 people. It seems that people are staying pretty healthy, except for a couple who had sore backs from shoveling snow. I keep hearing about the flu and colds going around, but I haven't met many people that have been sick.

We practices giving and receiving good and bad news. The biggest problems was trying to get the right mood when giving the bad news. Many times people had a big smile on their face when talking about a car accident or being sick. The homework for next week is to do the Your Turn exercise on page 25. Remember that you aren't going to just answer your partner's question. You are going to tell them about the person. Your partner will then ask you any questions they might have.

Part two of the homework is to learn how to explain Setsubun in English.
