The Wi-Fi Boom. The wireless networking system called Wi-Fi seems to be turning up everywhere, letting computer users go onling in parks and coffeehouses.

Finding Hot Spots and Service Providers. Once you are equipped with a laptop or palmtop with a Wi-Fi card, you are ready to roam. Several Web sites can guide you to Wi-Fi access points, or hot spots; other sites provide information about subscription-based access.

Watch Downloaded Movies the Old Way (on the Couch). Many people have taken to downloading movies, but sitting at a desk watching a movie on a computer monitor is less comfortable than sprawling on the couch in front of the TV. For those with PlayStation 2 consoles and network adapters, BroadQ has an answer: qCast, which streams movies from the computer to the PlayStation 2. The console plays them on the TV.

Hughes may
scrap two Internet initiatives: Because of the merger crash, looks like Hughes
is gonna scrap DirectWay and their next-gen satellite design. My guess is they
will
rely
on
DSL/Phones as their
uplink. DirecTV does offer a form of branded DSL to its customers. DirecTV has
to figure out how to make their service 2-way.
