Tapping Into Public Wireless Networks. If you are ready to pull your own computer out of your bag and join in the Wi-Fi revolution, take heart. It is easier than you might think.

The Wi-Fi Boom. The wireless networking system called Wi-Fi seems to be turning up everywhere, letting computer users go onling in parks and coffeehouses.

In the Home, a Tool Kit for a Wireless Network. Setting up the gear for a Wi-Fi connection isn't what you'd call user-friendly; user indifferent is more like it.

Finding Hot Spots and Service Providers. Once you are equipped with a laptop or palmtop with a Wi-Fi card, you are ready to roam. Several Web sites can guide you to Wi-Fi access points, or hot spots; other sites provide information about subscription-based access.

Watch Downloaded Movies the Old Way (on the Couch). Many people have taken to downloading movies, but sitting at a desk watching a movie on a computer monitor is less comfortable than sprawling on the couch in front of the TV. For those with PlayStation 2 consoles and network adapters, BroadQ has an answer: qCast, which streams movies from the computer to the PlayStation 2. The console plays them on the TV.
