Canadian Tech Update

While shrink wrapped software and PC hardware is often in the news most computer technology applications are behind the scenes. Some recent examples in Toronto:

Indigo Books & Music Inc

The Globe and Mail reports that Indigo Books & Music Inc will stop accepting any new shipments of books for three weeks to allow its stores and centralized distribution centre to switch to the mySAP™ Retail inventory system. This will complete a multi-year phase-out of its older software that was blamed for repeated overstocking and lost inventory.

It’s not clear if the stop on shipments was required or only to make the switch over easier; completely shutting down operations seems extreme.

Toronto Pearson International Airport

Toronto's new $3.6 billion Cdn Terminal 1 building is fully wired. Cisco Systems Inc created an end-to-end IP network using Cisco's Intelligent Airport Solutions product.
