Today finds me completely puzzled by other people and their lives. As I watch the goofy union guys across the street strike I have to wonder what in the hell they are thinking. Obviously, this is not the most solid economic time in our countries history. Therefore, these people pick four weeks before Christmas to stand outside and carry signs about not patronizing their company because it is unfair. I hope they are asking for thirty extra thousand dollars each because that it what everyone else that does that particular job is currently making. However, that doesn’t make sense as they could just go work for another company that actually pays the higher wage. Maybe they are so good that the company can’t survive without them and they deserve everything that they are demanding. Walking around the outside of the building and stopping everything from coming in is the best way I can think to ensure that you still have a company for which to work. Seems like a big gamble to this simpleton. Company can’t afford to pay what I want, they must be making a bajillion dollars of my sweat, I think we need to mill around in the cold and shut this place down until somebody shits some money. I know I will get email from some successful union people explaining the virtues and how stupid I am but you won’t change my mind. There has to be a better way to solve a problem than walking around freezing and stopping money you need from being made by “the man.” I’m on this particular soapbox tonight because I desperately want my company to turn the corner and have a problem with people who take their employment for granted. By the way, what exactly is a CNC operator? A little extra holiday cash never hurts and it doesn’t look like a very physical job. It actually crossed my mind to station an ambulance on their corner because I know this is the most standing that at least three of those guys have done in quite a while. If it turns out (as it looks) to be Cookie ‘N’ Cake Operator, I will be suspending the diet and taking the fast train to Scabsville.
Authors note: I am still bothered by this but now I am not sure if it is the stupidstrike or writing these thoughts down. I will stick with the “If it’s laid, it’s played” rule but for some reason I don’t like it.
