I have to stick with tradition and return from a break with a tangent. I have recently become fascinated by the abundant BUM population in Tucson. I realize that is not the politically correct term for those without permanent homes but these folks just say bum. I would even go as far as to classify them “smart bums” because they chose to walk away from society in a warm climate and managed to avoid the pitfalls of a larger city. My fascination has led me to one-on-bum interaction as I have found myself on more than one occasion discussing sales technique and proper begging. The best one so far had a spectacular opening line but wasn’t prepared for anything beyond it. “Hey buddy would you mind, I’m a quarter short?”  A quarter short of what says I to which he responded with a blank stare and a scratch of his side. As he turned to give up I told him that he had my interest but he needed to close me. How about a quarter short of your first million? No response. I had a dozen or so good suggestions but he finally managed to shake me so I walked back to the circle K and went back to work.

The only thing better out here than the bums is the wild herd of Harry Krishna’s. I have yet to make contact because there insane singing and drum/symbol playing scares me, but I will overcome my fears and interact. I have some basic questions that beg answers. Do the men wear undergarments under those robes and if not is it as freeing as it looks? What about showers? Those wacky shave everything but a ponytail haircuts take some maintenance. How about hanging out 24/7 with the same bag of nuts? Man I love people that dance a different path.
