Getting better:

Here is CJ looking much more like her normal self. This after a shocking bout with a strong pneumonia. This episode started when she came home from Colorado with a fever within days she was told she had double pneumonia and given antibiotics. These, of course, ran out on Saturday and by Sunday night she was not doing well at all. Monday morning they took her into the hospital. Doctors thought she was responding to treatment ... but by Thursday her fever was getting worse. On Friday they identified sizable deposits on the wall of her chest cavity. Attempts to drain them with needles failed and surgery was scheduled for Saturday morning.

Surgery lasted over three hours. This, like any procedure that opens the thorax, was a very serious operation. We were very impressed by the surgeon. She said that cases like CJ's seem to come in waves when she may encounter three or four in a month. The puss pockets had a jelly like consistency and the membrane forming on the outside of the lungs was harder to remove than most.

CJ was in the ICU for a couple of days. The staff there were very attentive and helpful. After another day in a standard room, she was released to come home.
