SLASHDOT org -- Mick Cunningham has tried to request the source code of the electronic voting system first used in Ireland's May 2002 general election. And he discovered the Irish government does not have the code. However, the electronic records are stored using Microsoft software (no source code available), served to the world using Microsoft servers (no source code available), and email around government offices using Lotus Notes (no source code available).
The Irish government commissioned PMI Software to write the electronic voting code. The source code is held by Nedap/Powervote and is not available in Ireland's Department of the Environment and Local Government.
In typical fashion, an alert Slashdot reader revised the nedap software to run in the 2004 American election.
