Windfall from Text Voting GARRINGREEN HOTSPOT -- The talent show to find Ireland's Eurovision entry has generated €2.5m for three Irish companies. When You're a Star phone lines closed shortly before midnight on 7 March, the tally of votes throughout the series had risen to more than 4m. The producers of the show, who have struggled to cope with the huge demand from the public vote for the acts, extended the voting window by two hours. Costing just under €0.60 per vote, the volume of calls represented an unexpected windfall of around €2.5m for three companies. RTE and Eircom Response, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eircom, shared the revenue from the votes phoned in while the broadcaster and O2, a mobile operator, divided the income from text voting.
