GRAFTON STREET, DUBLIN -- It's noticeably quieter along Dublin's prime shopping areas this year. Surveys carried out by the Centre for Retail Studies at NUI Dublin show that footfall traffic on Grafton Street and Henry Street fell considerably in 2002. During retail hours, an average of 10,500 people per hour walked through Grafton Street in 2001 but this figure fell to 9800 during 2002. Last year, Henry Street attracted 8100 people per hour compared with 9400 people in 2001. Emer Hughes: "Footfall down on city centre retail streets" in The Sunday Business Post, April 6, 2003. x: 18
