HP merger plans get big boost. The proposed merger of Hewlett-Packard and Compaq Computer receives a much-needed boost when an influential advisory firm recommends that shareholders vote in favor of the deal. [CNET News.com] This is patent nonsense. Who exactly is this faceless 'ISS'? I'm sick and tired of so-called 'experts' coming down on one side or other of whatever fence may be involved, and the opinon of 'analysts' being trotted out as absolute gospel. Bush Meets With Mubarak for Peace. President Bush welcomed a peace proposal by Saudi Arabia and planned to take it up with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak at the White House on Tuesday. [AP World News] Well, what do you know? Is this real progress? Let's all hope so -- though it will be really difficult to simply sweep aside the bitterness which has developed in the past sixteen months, especially if Ariel Sharon continues with his hard-line attitude.       And, even if these moves do lead to a calming of the situation, one cannot help wondering why so many lives had to be lost in the first place.
