Annan Considers Disbanding Mission. Facing strong Israeli objections, Secretary-General Kofi Annan is considering disbanding a U.N. fact-finding team that was to look into Israel's military assault on the Jenin refugee camp, a senior U.N. official said Tuesday. [AP World News]
Scandalous! So Israel thumbs its nose at the UN and gets away with it!. What sort of signal does this give? On the one hand we have pious statements from the US and Britain about Iraq and weapons inspectors, but not a word from either of these 'powers' about the conduct of the Israelis (either in Jenin or during this recent sorry episode). How can double standards like this do anything other than inflame anti-Western extremism?
