To my eternal shame, I have never visited the Chester Beatty Library, despite living here in Dublin all this time. I suppose this is fairly typical of most city residents. We are less likely than visiting tourists to visit our most famous sites. In the days when Nelson's Pillar was still standing in O'Connell Street, local wits maintained that the sign of a true Dubliner was that he had never been 'up the Pillar'.
