Sharon Resumes Direct Talks With Palestinians. Israeli officials described the contacts, which include lower-level meetings, as an effort to arrange a cease-fire. By James Bennet. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]
It was disheartening in the extreme to see the results of the recent Israeli general election. To think this dangerous and evil man gain even more seats in the Knesset isn't exactly reassuring. Surely this can only enbolden him even further in his anti-human policies against Palestine. To have the demolition of ten Palestinian houses stated in this NYT article as a by-the-way statement at the end is typical of a coverage in the media which seems to glorify bullyboy tactics.

Rumsfeld Rebukes U.N. and NATO on Approach to Baghdad. The defense secretary urged the U.N. to stop Iraqi defiance of U.N. resolutions and warned NATO to stop delaying plans to defend Turkey. By Thom Shanker. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]
This man has a damn cheek! 'Reprimand', indeed! The bottom line of all this, of course, is 'Adopt the US view on all things. Do not indulge in independent thinking. Do not voice opposition to the will of the US. ? sounds awfully reminiscent of the old Soviet Union to me. And what about his idiotic 'old Europe' remark about France and Germany? Attemtping to defuse this with 'humour' is a strange way to describe this quote: 'No one wants war, Mr. Rumsfeld said. "War is never a first or an easy choice," he added. "But the risks of war need to be balanced against the risks of doing nothing while Iraq pursues the tools of mass destruction."' 'No wants war'? What else exactly does the US want? ? and why?
