Here's a link to an international project, the World Dialogue on Regulation for Network Economies, that appears to be raising some interesting issues regarding how telecommunications and the related technologies are regulated.  After all the existence of the internet is not enough to create openess if access to it is restricted by means, politics, or laws.

Part of my futurist bent is this web site about the future of work from a European perspective.  The EMERGENCE project, sponsored by the European commission, is trying to define what the new world of work will locate as a result of new technologies.

Open Source is more than just a software technology issue.  Authors such as Pekka Himanen and Lawrence Lessig began the argument over whether open source practices could be extended to intellectual property.  Now the New Scientist is continuing it by publishing an article under the DSL (design site license).

No one knows yet how the open source idea will work for intellectual propety other than computer code.  The article points to two interesting projects: the OpenLaw project at Harvard and wikipedia - nupedia as examples of how an open source system might be applied to law and an encyclopedia.  I wish both of them luck.

I remember reading Jane Eyre in high school and actually enjoying it.  I didn't expect to like it but I did.  So here's a new take on it that looks interesting enough to be worth checking out.  Review from the Christian Science Monitor.
