"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Martha Stewart humor is still quite popular:

Martha Stewart editorial cartoons:

Good Thing: tray fresh-baked cookies.
Not a Good Thing: hand in the cookie jar.

Martha Stewart's jail cell: "Roses and lady's breath turn this seatless toilet into a beautiful display." And the cellmate: "Why me?"

Martha Stewart Living Behind Bars

Here are some handy tips to help you get through the hardest 6 to 18 months of your life!

Even Doonesbury: "It was just between intimate friends over the holidays."

Poor Martha Stewart.

But there's hope: "...in comparison to the cash Bush's Kenny Boy looted from Enron at the expense of all the laid off employees and their families. How many people did Martha Stewart kick out on the street in an effort to boost the share value of IM Clone? Oh, that's right I forgot: NONE."

Really, isn't this the definition of humor? Strongly branded lifestyle-personality cult... corporate fraudster! Laugh at Martha, and forget about Cheney and Halliburton, Bush and Enron, Andersen and WorldCom and campaign contributions to the Republican party. Isn't that fun?

"Wise One: can a pacifist be an 'enemy combatant'?"

"Grasshopper, an enemy combatant is not necessarily someone who engages in combat. Rather it is someone who authorities *think* *might* engage in combat in the future. Since authorities cannot claim perfect knowledge of future events, there will always be mistakes. How should they know if a professed pacifist truly is one? And what proof could you offer that a current pacifist won't engage in violence in the future? Since there is no mechanism to insure accountability, authorities will use the most 'liberal' definition of potential combatants.

[10:54:12 PM]
TomTheDancingBug [ucomics.com]: "JUDGE SCALIA"... "That's right! And I rule that Ahmed Chalabi is the new ruler of Iraq! You're OUT!"... "But my laws state-"... "I'm sorry, your time to object lapsed three minutes ago"...

[10:36:46 PM]
"...once was to many people a model of democracy and economic success," but its staunchly ideological crackpot in charge has thrown away its heritage, its promise, even the pretense of responsible and thoughtful rule."

[10:25:35 PM]
"You can't keep me here! I'm and American Citizen!!! I have the right to see a lawyer!"

[10:24:26 PM]
"Thinking about war makes me run faster. And you should see what it does for Little Georgie! Laura just runs screamin' from the room."

[10:21:31 PM]
It's so beautiful: "wag the dog" strategy, and now we have dog-gassing video. Now we're "wagging the gassed puppy".

[10:06:21 PM]
RBHam gets down [shaw.ca]: 'If Cynthia McKinney was just a "crackpot conspiracy theorist" and a "terrorist sympathizer" why did the republican Machine do everything in it's power to depose her? Hmmm? I mean, wouldn't it be better for the Republicans if the Democrats were represented by such a "whacko" in Congress? Hmmm? I mean, if there's absolutely no truth to her charges of Poppy Bush profiting through the Carlyle Group on The War Of Terror and there's absolutely nothing to hide from an open, independent and thorough investigation into 9-11 - what the HELL were they so afraid of that they pulled out ALL the stops to get rif of her?'

...'Bob Barr was one of the few politicians to stand up and denounce the Gestapo...errr...Patriot act for what it is. A legislative prelude to martial law. The Bush Administration feared Mr. Barr and his outspoken ways, thus they helped engineer his demise, Mr. Linder, you can be sure, will be a "good" republican and toe the Fascist line for His Fuhrer, Bush Junior.'

[10:02:33 PM]
Simple: anybody who messes with freedom of speech or voting is a traitor. Hang 'em high. Cops, politicians, bureaucrats, corporations, pundits... Get a rope. Or was it the *flag* you're loyal to -- not the Constitution?

[9:56:15 PM]
FBI's all busy hunting Senators. Why don't they hunt down their own leakers? Who leaked the ridiculous Hatfill story that they put together a sniff-pack for dogs based on an envelope delivered in October and the dogs "went wild" in every building Hatfill had ever walked into? Whoever leaked that one -- jailtime. Oops, it was Mueller's guy? Well you know you've got to "throw the scent" off Z.

[9:33:06 PM]
Reflections on Orwell and the Stockton Protest [bartcop.com]: "Citizens are encouraged to spy on one another, there's endless war with ever-changing enemies, the media herald Big Dubya as the greatest leader in human history (while promptly dispatching his many embarrassing gaffes down the memory hole), and, as we?ve seen in Portland recently, dissent is coldly quashed with police-state tactics."

[9:27:49 PM]
Krugman again [bartcop.com].

Can we just all stipulate that everything Bushlette does is designed to screw anyone who isn't one of Bushlette's cronies? Then Krugman could go on to some more interesting topics, and stop sounding like a completely broken record.

[9:24:58 PM]
"I am familiar with the arguments against taking action in the case of Saddam Hussein. Some concede that Saddam is evil, power hungry and a menace, but that until he crosses the threshold of actually possessing nuclear weapons we should rule out any preemptive action. That logic seems to me to be deeply flawed. The argument comes down to this: 'Yes, Saddam is dangerous', and if we don't come up with something big, Democrats could take the House in November. Heck, I could even spend the last years of my life in jail. So anybody who says anything about Iraq had darned well better decide if Camp X-ray sounds like a fun vacation -- for the rest of your damned life."

"Were there any more questions?"

[9:21:50 PM]
"DNA tests free man for rape, murder after 17 years."

[9:15:50 PM]
So at Cheney's undisclosed location, are there still bureaucrats making secret doctrines?
