"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

I hate upgrades. There's no telling what mischief software upgrade makers will wreak. Once when I upgraded OS X, moving the mouse stopped bring the Mac out of sleep. That's the way it should work, of course. But why didn't they just do it right the first time?

One upgrade made the dvd player reasonably stable. I appreciate that. But now a big, freaky icon appears when I open the dvd tray. Ouch. And the dumb brushed-metal controller doesn't disappear now. It's true I'd rather have the dvd player work than not have to look at the play controller all the time, but what a nasty choice.

Another upgrade of the OS made fonts look terrible, and now when it first boots, the login screen is 800x600 pixels -- too freaky-scary huge on my 19-inch monitor.

And of course there's no telling what EULA nonsense Microsoft will force down your throat when you apply the daily security patch.

I hate upgrades.
