 | I'm about ready to give up on this election year 2004. I dislike John Kerry, and the failed foreign policy legacy of the Democratic party. I believe in a strong national defence. I think the U.S. needs to execute on a strategy to bring democracy and greater Global connectivity to the disenfranchised portions of the world. (See Thomas P.M. Barnett for more on this.)
But I can't bring myself to vote for Bush. I don't like the Christian Right Conservative agenda, and I don't like the refusal of the Republican Party to deal with Corporate abuses (I doubt the Democrats would do better.) I wanted to vote for a third party candidate, even if I don't agree with all their views, (3rd parties need vote counts to get funding for the next election.) Ralph Nader - the only visible 3rd party candidate - didn't get on the ballot in California.
Unlike both sides of the partisan debate, I think the U.S. will survive regardless of who gets elected. I'm more concerned with fundamental flaws in the entire system, society and culture of America. I'll just try to keep improving my small corner of the world. |
