One Terabyte On 12cm Optical disk (japanese only)
 |
Optware of Yokohama, Japan (a company composed of former Sony engineers)demoed a high speed high density optical disc holographic recording system capable of storing one terabyte onto a 12cm disc with a transfer rate of 1Gbps.

It's nice to see the breakdown of the system in Japan which would previously have trapped Sony engineers into a lifetime career at Sony. While some things are lost (like job security and corporate caretaking of employees,) it does give the smart people an opportunity to start something new and revolutionary - the kind of innovation that has been going on in the U.S. for some time.
