Details Emerge of Long-Term Spy Project to Gain Influence in Japan
I had heard there was more sympathy for North Korea than for the South by Koreans living in Japan. One of the reasons given was that at the time of the end of the Korean War, North Korea had a more developed economy and industrial base, and in the semi-racist society of Japan, Koreans living as second class citizens would be more likely to garner support from friends in North Korea than in the South. I wonder to what extent those sympathies have changed over time as South Korea's economic star rose. It is nice to see a thaw in the cold war with North Korea, especially because the remaining big player with a Communist/Totalitarian history will figure prominently in the future of Japan, Korea and all of Asia. I'm sure China always counted on North Korea in their planning for any future strategic actions.
