According to Popular Science Magazine the Bird of Prey gets takes its name from the Klingon spacecraft (from the Star Trek universe) first seen in the move Star Trek 3 : Search for Spock. (Because the wing configuration resembles the Klingon design.) In fact, they could look farther into the past of Star Trek, to the Klingon D7 Battlecruiser, which also has aft "wings" with downward canted wing tips, although calling them "wings" is a bit of stretch.
