RHINO HERE:
The stories continue to come out from behind the scenes at the NY Times  of just how effective a liar Jayson Blair had been. His techniques... "include misstatements or possibly borrowed passages, or quotations that have been denied by the speaker to whom they were attributed."
Jayson Blair

And in response, word has it that White House efforts to negotiate a higher salary for Press Secretary have convinced young Blair to take the job when Ari Fleischer  leaves. ... "The White House requires telling many whoppers everyday, and this young man really knows how to spin the truth," said Victoria Darkness, a Pentagon spokeswoman.

Not Invited to The Bohemian Grove Bash Nest Month?
If you're one of the many people who were not invited to the annual Bohemian Grove Bash, or maybe you weren't even told about it; never heard of it? This is the Summer gathering of the who's who of fat cats wherein word has it the likes of President George H.W. Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Henry Kissinger, Riley Bechtel and many others who shape our world (this group is so exclusive that even Condoleeza Rice can't get in) get drunk, run around in the redwoods, pee on trees, and generally whore around in their birthday suits at "the greatest men's party on earth."

So if you're not going, maybe you want to check out the annual "Fat Cats' Festival and Parade" scheduled  to coincide with the Bohemian Grove Summer Encampment where you can  move to great music and get fired up by inspirational speakers.  This year's activities are being organized by Not In Our Name Sonoma County with support from Direct Action to Stop the War.

The SF Gate has a great series on the history of City Lights Bookstore and the sheer miracle it is that this historic site of the Beat generation isn't now a Barnes & Nobles / Starbucks.

Literary light
City Lights Bookstore, at 50, is showing few signs of aging
Adair Lara, San Francisco Chronicle, 6/5/03

It's strange to walk down Columbus Avenue in 2003. The traffic poles still have green, white and red bands painted on them, and the smell of pasta still hangs in the air like an aria. But the Condor, Carol Doda's notorious strip club, a sports bar? And there's a sign over Little Joe's -- it's moving to Van Ness. Beat poet and playwright Michael McClure lives in Oakland.

Kitty-corner across Columbus from the Condor, what has replaced that leftist bookstore where the Beats and angel-headed hipsters hung out? Prime location, right on Columbus -- must be a Barnes & Noble there now, maybe with a nice little Starbucks offering Frappuccinos on the second floor.

But, no, there it is, City Lights Bookstore, with a fresh coat of creamy paint, San Francisco's dream of itself ever since Lawrence Ferlinghetti, its poet owner, was tried on obscenity charges in 1957 for publishing Allen Ginsberg's "Howl."

RHINO'S BOTTOM LINE could almost be called a serious piece by the usually psycho-ranting SF Gate Columnist, Mark Morford. Here he revisits a discussion that was going on every day during the Monika Impeachment hearings; being - Is having a highly sexed leader of the free world better or worse than having a sexually inept leader of the free world? You know those French folks know all about this.

RHINO'S BOTTOM LINE could almost be called a serious piece by the usually psycho-ranting  SF Gate Columnist, Mark Morford. Here he revisits a discussion that was going on every day during the Monika Empeachment hearings; being - Is having a highly sexed leader of the free world better or worse than having a sexually inept leader of the free world? You know those French folks know all about this.

RHINO'S BOTTOM LINE
Come Back, Clinton Sex Nation
Is the country better off with a president who actually has an active libido? Hell yes.
By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist      Wednesday, June 11, 2003

...Look. It ain't rocket science. Lack of sex, repression of libido, ignorance of sexuality or sex education, lack of sexual celebration or outlet -- these things, on a national level, on an energetic universal level, can only result in conflict, bitterness, angst and war, and the need to flaunt bogus machismo, invent new enemies and strut around the planet thinking you're literally God's gift to empire when you're really just a draconian impotent bully.

Look at the world's most rigid and violent and oppressive nations for proof, at Syria Saudi Arabia Afghanistan China et al. Notice their attitudes toward sex and women and sexual expression. Draw easy parallel with Ashcroft and Dick Cheney and Rove and BushCo's anti-gay anti-women anti-choice propaganda. Voilà.
Now, glimpse the current state of American affairs, that acidic stifling powder-keg feeling, that sense of sad closed-mindedness and deep-seated fear and the sense that the only real screwing going on is what the USA Patriot Act and the 2004 Bush budget are doing to you, right now. Show me a brutish dictator/despot/pseudo-fascist/Rumsfeld, and I'll show you a sneering hunk of sexual ineptitude...
