RHINO'S BLOG - Mid August, 2005 THE QUOTE: I don't make jokes. I just watch the government & report the facts. - - Will Rogers THE HISTORY: August 15th, 1969 -- The Woodstock Music & Art Fair opens for 3 days on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. Over 400,000 attend, most without tickets, prompting officials to say the festival is open & free. On stage comes Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Sly & the Family Stone, The Who, the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Canned Heat, Crosby, Still Nash & Young & the Jefferson Airplane among others. Things that helped make Woodstock a unique event included, but were not limited to, rampant drug use, not enough food or sanitation, three deaths, two births, four miscarriages and no fisticuffs . Oh, & a lack of cops. RHINO HERE: Due to powers beyond the Rhino's control, including but not limited to Mercury in & out of retrograde, the Rhino lair being sold necessitating major packing & moving, & preparations for the wedding of a Rhinette (the eldest daughter) this coming Fall, the Rhino will not be blogging for the remainder of the Summer.   While I continue to be chagrined & often outraged by the blatant profiteering & war mongering of the Bush neo-robber baron U.S. administration, I am also enheartened by the rise & persistence of so many strong voices of dissent. I will be back - but meanwhile, The Rhino recommends the following news & commentary sources to both inform & entertain.  I do believe that while karma is not always, as John Lennon suggested, instant, it is inevitable.  Keep the faith & have a healthy summer.
