John Robb nails it in his post below. Tie it in with a networked Personal Video Recorder/Media Manager and you are set.

WSJ.  Sony to offer audio versions of old soap operas on a pay-per-use site.   Huh?  This is brain dead.  They should be packaging complete seasons of old TV shows and selling them as an all you can eat service.  Pump up the volume Sony!  The storage space to do this is there.  The bandwidth is there.  The demand is there. 

A service that used unused cable bandwidth to pump complete seasons of shows to a 120 Gb playback device would be very easy to build.  Would people pay $10 to $20 a month for access to this?  Millions would.  Star Trek, I Love Lucy, Seinfeld, Mash, etc should all be pumped out this way.  Delete the episodes you don't want.  The company that launches this is going to make a mint.  Ride the wave.
