So close, and yet so sleepy

Gah. I feel like I can talk all around what this is, but I can't quite grasp the actual implementation of the idea. I'll have to ruminate on it a bit and come back fresh in the morning.

Microdots used to track items, reduce theft [Geeknews] Originally from Wired

Tiny dots that are the size of grains of sand are used to tag products with thousands of id numbers. The dots are visible under UV light, so that thieves know they are there. This makes it near impossible to traffic in stolen goods, for now, as the parts that would normally be chopped and resold are marked quite clearly. Insurance companies are dropping their premiums by as much as 10% for autos that have been tagged thus.

Part Man, Part Film, All Mann. Steve Mann, who created the wearable computer and has always dreamed of being a cyborg, merges technology with humanity in a new film, Cyberman. Brad King reports from the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, Texas. [Wired News]

Steve Mann is living his dream. Lots of people talk about what they would do if they only had the time, the money, the energy. he just does it. While we have a long way to go in terms of the size and effacacy of the displays, he is taking those vital first steps to make it possible, and is helping to train the people who will likely make this a reality.
