parrot/pnet synergy
Here's an interesting bit of information: The portable.net/dotgnu
brain, Rhys Wheatherly,
has started making inquiries on the perl6 mailing list about the
possibility of exporting parrot
bytecode from gnu's C# compiler. I would like to see Rhys' project
differentiated from mono, and I think Rhys would like to see the
project achieve some independence from Microsoft's IPR (the real reason).
I believe that Ximian is angling for commercial relicensing of their
mono version, for Windows/.NET software companies that want a Linux
story (like uWin does currently, in reverse). But I also think that MS
will eventually rattle their legal sabers at Ximian, not because
they're threatened by the software, but because they need to drive home
the ambiguous legal status of open source in general to defend their
market.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Parrot.
