Jon Udell: Voice Data Mining that doesn't suck
aka. 'Record everything you ever say and then Google it'

I had a terrible experience working out a billing dispute with Sprint
PCS the other day. The terrible part was that I had to call and talk to
them twice about exactly the same issue, and resolve it in exactly the
same way, for 1 hour each time. They either didn't write down notes
from the first time, or decided to reinterpret the notes as meaning
that they had conceeded nothing. When I finished the call, I asked how
I could prevent this from happening a third time. Of course, I
expected the answer I got (absolutely nothing), but I had to ask.
During the whole ordeal, I kept thinking to myself, "They're
recording this conversation, why don't I?"
Anyway, I believe the cost of storing a speech-to-text copy of
everything you ever said in your whole life has already dropped to
pocket change. I'm very much looking forward to the software that makes
it feasible.
