A group of the nation's state court administrators and Chief Justices recently approved policy guidelines for public access to court records, which closely parallel those adopted earlier this year by the federal judiciary.  [ Via ABA Journal eReport  ]  More background here and here.  The policy recommendations were submitted for consideration by the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators at their Annual Conference held this year in Rockport, Maine.  Link to the 66-page .pdf here.

The guidelines are not binding on the states, but are intended to be a policymaking tool.
