ActiveState Awards

(I pulled this from www.php.net.  It's a good thing to do.)

ActiveState is delighted to announce the second annual Programmers' Choice and Activators' Choice Awards. The awards honor the unnamed heroes who actively contribute to open languages and display excellence in their programming efforts. The Programmers' Choice recipients are nominated and chosen by members of the programming community - like you. Know someone who's really made a difference using these languages? Tell us about them! Get out the vote and stay tuned! Nominees will be announced July 2, 2002. Perl, PHP, Python and XSLT winners will be announced at OSCON July 23, 2002. Tcl winners will be announced at the Tcl 2002 conference in September.

Going to the Boston Mozilla Party?

If you are in the Boston area you might want to think about tomorrow night's Mozilla party.  It looks to be very cool and Andy of www.uzilla.com fame did a superb job in not only putting it all together but also keeping his cool during a length mailing list debate (I'd have probably said "Look.  It's at Manray and that's final" or something like that).  Thanks Andy!  I'll be there and, hardware and WiFi willing, taking pictures and blogging right from the event, complete with webcam, digital camera and requisite black clothing (see below).

Greetings All,

The beauty and atrocity of computer mediated democracy aside (at least I didn't try to use bugzilla!), we have arrived at a plan.

WIRED & HOPPED, 5:30PM - 8:30PM

A keg-o-rama/dinner at Mama Gaia's, 2 blocks from the Kendall/MIT T station, at 401 Massachusetts. We have a private room, accomodating 50, with

wireless internet access. Laptops encouraged.  Mama Gaia's management is very enthusiastic about open source in a positive global way. We need a projector, a wireless hub, a volunteer DJ (RCA in to house sound provided). Please email me (andyed@surfmind.com ) to volunteer for any of these roles or for any additional activities. We'll be synched tofestivities at the Remote Lounge in NYC.

Cost is for your food and $3-5 for the keg. I need 20 rsvp's to lock in the

keg.

DARK, FANCY, & DANCY, 8PM-2.0

A private pre and post goth nite gathering and subsequent dancefest at ManRay. Cover is $3 for Mozillians before 10PM.  Please note, ManRay requires fancy, kinky, or black attire. If this is  simply not you, an alternative late nite gig may be had just up the street from Gaia at The People's Republik.

(NOTE from Scott -- before you bitch too heavily about the dress, I strongly suggest you look at the photos in the gallery.  And, yes, black jeans are cool AFAIK.  Come on after all, if someone (me) who's college room mates used to call "Captain Whitebread" can plan on attending, so can you.)

PLEASE RSVP at http://surfmind.com/lab/moz/bostonbeerparty.cfm  or to me (and only me!) directly via email. In particular, I need a 20+ head count to lock in the keg at Mama Gaia's.

Finally, my apologies for the slew of emails... We'll shut the list down shortly and send one final reminder on Wednesday. Please note, Mama Gaia's and ManRay are 2/10s of a mile apart.

Zillilly yours,

Andy Edmonds
