Marketing 101: Stupidity Begins at Home

It is a fairly well understood marketing truism that if you focus your market research to much on yourself then you tend to not serve the needs of your target customer.  I.e. you end up designing what you want rather than what your customer wants.  That's a good premise and while it is sometimes true, it certainly isn't always true.  Or as I like to say:
