The religious threat to Enlightenment values
If our civilization is to survive, we will need to recover the moral judgment needed to recognize radical evil, the language in which to condemn it, and the determination to act. ... Having recognized al-Qaeda's behavior as radically evil, we must next recognize that its motivating ideology is evil, too. And the first step there is recognizing that Islam's apologists are systematically lying to us about what they believe and intend. ... there is simply no constituency in Islam prepared to recognize Western concepts of peace, tolerance, and pluralism.
Here is what motivates Al-Qai'da, dutifully following the precepts of the Koran, i.e. being true to Islam:
America is the head of heresy in our modern world, and it leads an infidel democratic regime that is based upon separation of religion and state and on ruling the people by the people via legislating laws that contradict the way of Allah and permit what Allah has prohibited. ... We have the right to kill 4 million Americans -- 2 million of them children.
In other words, Al-Qai'da and their muslim supporters are opposed to: freedom of thought and expression, the separation of church from state, representative government, and the right to life. They are iedologically and radically opposed to the American ideal of the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
No compromise is possible. Either we defeat them, or a new Dark Age will descend on mankind.

fell asleep faster and slept more deeply, a sign of the body's attempt to adapt to the sleep loss. And during the daytime, the sleep-deprived individuals showed more signs of sleepiness and performed worse on a vigilance test. In addition, researchers found that sleep deprivation affected hormonal levels... [increasing] cytokines, which are proteins the body releases in response to injury.
