Modern Gold Rushes

While most media like to refer to a recent "Internet bubble" or "the dot-com bubble" I think a better choice of words is "the first electronic rush" — by analogy to past gold rushes (there were five in North America during the 19th century). For instance, in the Klondike gold rush only 400 people stroke it rich directly, while 250 thousand tried (and more than half died on the way). Many stayed where they arrived, and started other business. Something similar (but world-wide) happened between 1994 and 2000 (arguably including or combined with a telco rush). I'm certain there will be more electronic rushes. [this item]
