Sun and Snow: July 20th to August 26th

Chicago, Door County (Wisconsin), Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Vancouver, Victoria (Vancouver Island), Olympic National Park, Seattle, Denver, Great Sand Dunes, Crested Butte, Aspen... Sunny, warm weather all the way, except for an afternoon of snow near Calgary. What a wonderful trip. Still, I'm looking forward to going home, to rainy grey ugly stinky London. Shrug. SMILE. Posts with pictures will follow in the coming weeks. I took my digital camera and iBook with me. I've taken about 400 pictures during this trip — this would never have been possible/happened if I still used my old (analog film) camera. I love advanced technology, individual initiative, and capitalist freedom, the source and protection of it all! [this item]

Lunch coffee notes

I have not had much success in accessing the Internet with my airport-equipped iBook over the past month, while travelling in the US and Canada. Two Fairmont hotels provided v.good Ethernet connections (in Lake Louise and Jasper), a Starbucks in Seattle offered wi-fi access at $2.99 per 15 minutes which I tried and loved, and the Denver International Airport has an experimental, free wi-fi access which I lovingly used. So much for warchalking and wi-fi everywhere!
Update: I'm connected with a wi-fi network while sitting on a bench in the heart of Aspen, on Hyman Avenue Mall, in front of the Ritz-Carlton club. Downloading my email and reading Web pages. Yeah! No idea of who is providing that service (IE10G or something like that?!?).

The Rockies in Colorado are so beautiful, it's hard to take pictures that capture their grandeur. Also, there are few possibilities to stop along the road, thus making it even harder to photograph amazing views (speeding SUVs in the rearview mirror don't help either). [this item]
