German love for tyrants

Millions of anti-American Germans cheered when Schroeder made his electoral promises to oppose US policy in any way he could. Millions of Germans also used to march around the country 15-20 years ago, screaming "rather red than dead" (lieber rot als tot) because they were upset by the USA+UK building up defenses (such as Pershing missiles) so as to prevent a Soviet take-over of Western Europe.

One would expect something like support and gratitude from a people saved twice in 50 years from tyranny by the USA+UK. But no. Instead, today, the degenerate German government wants to deny the blessings of liberty to the Iraqi people. Ceterum censeo, delenda est Mecca. [this item]

The Anti-American Axis

First, Rumsfeld launches the accurate Old Europe vs New Europe distinction (Germany and France vs 18 pro-American countries in Europe). Second, he identifies yet another bizarre German alignment. Asked at a congressional hearing what kind of cooperation to expect from other nations in the event of a war, he listed several he considered supportive and others that might come around to backing military action. Followed by this: And then there are three or four countries that have said they won't do anything. I believe Libya, Cuba and Germany are the ones that I have indicated won't help in any respect. It would be funny if it weren't such a critical issue. [via USS Clueless, with more details and analysis] [this item]
