I wonder how Telkom, Indosat, Satelindo, Atlasat and Gaharu got exclusive licenses to be the only VoIP operators in Indonesia. Why by political maneuvering you dolt!

The Indonesian government supports VoIP Merdeka!!! Surprising? Here's the catch: as long as it's not turned into a commercial service or linked to the PSTN. Moreover, the Directorate General of Post and Telecommunications is now 'evaluating' VoIP Merdeka!!! to make sure that it 'conforms to the current regulations'. Two things, first, it's illegal to connect it to the PSTN because the five commercial VoIP operators, Telkom, Indosat, Satelindo, Atlasat and Gaharu do not want any rag-tag group stealing their profits, and second, when a government agency is 'evaluating' something it means that they can pull the plug on it anytime they feel they're threatened by it.

My mom told me yesterday that if she wanted to be Ibu Presiden Republik Indonesia all she had to do was take naps and watch a lot of Indian movies.
