I'm watching the documentary "e-dreams" the story of Joseph Park and Kozmo.com. I'm struck by the naivete of everyone. There's really no concern by any of the main players to the business, but rather they're watching their paper wealth, worrying about trivial PR issues and the hyper mythmaking. I mean, did they really understand what was going on when they raised more money? Why were they so proud to be able to spend other people's money? Why did they think it was so cool to work 16 hours per day and sleep in a futon in a warehouse/
I used to use Kozmo, and I always wondered how they could make money having some poor schmuck drive out to deliver $10 worth of ice cream and rental DVDs to me. Of course, it didn't make sense, but then again, for several years, not much did. I'm happy in some ways that the tulip-mania of the dotcom era is over, but at the same time, I can't believe just how fast everything has changed. I expected to thin this was silly and embarrassing maybe 10, 20 years in the future, not 6 months or a year. Talk about Internet time...
