This really stinks. I'm not impressed by Eliza over IM.
Chambers' "show me" tech economy. This is really the first time in recent memory I've seen or heard an attempt at some real outward-looking leadership by a tech company. He's basically saying that the economy has changed, that IT and the Internet has been driving productivity, and this is a good thing.
Back in the .boom, everyone was a pundit with some kind of theory explaining why or what was going on.
Then the recession/depression/bubble burst and everyone was scrambling just to explain why things were so bad, or CYA of some form or other. I would say that there has been an unhealthy introspection going on, where people and companies have been worrying about their own jobs and/or justifying their own existance, rather than just getting on with things.
Hopefully Chambers is portending a new era of 'big thoughts' where the zeitgeist (or at least IT zeitgeist) is thinking about how to change the world in a positive way rather than just doing rearguard actions. Amen.
