Meme Me in St. Louis

Reading through the posts and counterposts on Politech re: the New Deconomy, I realize that I had it all wrong.  Here I was, thinking that it was a serious take on the next wave of what used to be called (in the old software industry) crippleware.  Of course, I now see the humor in Steve Mann's deadpan site.

Thing is, he's in major danger of the Deconomy meme taking on a sincere set of followers.  I believe the New Deconomy is here, or just about, and the way he characterizes it is pretty accurate. 

What's it called when a term of satire becomes the name for something?  Its like how George Bush senior always seemed to be doing a bad impersonation of Dana Carvey (doing George Bush Senior).
