When asked by a reporter what he thought of Western Civilization, Mahatma Gandhi is said to have replied "I think it would be a very good idea."

Bits and Bytes Online Edition was an electronic newsletter, an e-zine, one of many that sprang up like mushrooms on the net at that time.  I published back in the mid 90's, way back in the early days of the mass market internet.  The back issues are here; next time round I'll bring you up to speed on where I've been and where we're headed with this blog... nighty night.

I cannot believe this!  After spending about two hours writing a post, I lost the whole thing when I went to another screen in Radio UserLand (which I am using to publish this blog). It was great stuff too: pithy, poignant, full of social relevance, tender and heartfelt yet also angry, edgy, filled to the brim with a scathing disregard for the ways and folk customs of this increasingly goofy world we are living in, here in these early days of the 21st century.

Now Radio UserLand is a great tool, but since it is web based I should've known what to expect -- I was hoisted by my own petard... Curses!!  This is one of my pet peeves: how hard it is to work with computers and software, how much time fighting the trilogy of terror -- the operating system, the hardware and the software -- instead of getting the funky job done.  Well call me Shirley (as in Shirley you jest) but that sure feels like stone age computing to me -- and a lot of the time I actually know/think I know what I'm doing!  But I'm getting ahead of myself...

A test, a test, that's all this you see: a grey amorphous blog, ground zero for further farthering, ceaseless churn of silicon biology, digital technology and techno-cultural anthropology. Topped for your pleasure with juicy slivers of transrational theology, pop/cultural ideology, and liberally leavened with purest essence of Auntie Aubrey's Anti-Memetic Bulldada Ointment. Join us, won't we?
