WORDS: Maledicta
I used to subscribe to the print version of Maledicta, the Journal of Verbal Aggression, and in fact, that is where the action is: there is not a lot of content on the web site. But check it out, and if you like what's there buy an issue of the print version. It will deliver the goods! Here's how they describe themselves:
Neither boringly academic nor vulgar, Maledicta provides information and entertainment by its unique mixture of scholarly and popular, serious and witty, long and short, important and ephemeral essays and glossaries about "bad" words in English and many other languages.
Sample articles include:
Linguistic and Blasphemous Aspects of Bavarian Micturition and American Toilet Names
The complete "Shit happens" list
Do You Like Aural? British Phone Sex Ads
Domino's Pizza Jargon
Swearing as a Function of Gender in the Language of Midwestern American College Students: Who Does It More, What Do They Say, When and Where Do They Do It, and Why Do They Do It?
Obscenity and Vulgarity in African Oral Folklore
And so on... I always enjoyed reading Maledicta. Looks like the good Dr. Rheinhold Aman has another issue (#13) in the works. If you like wordplay, have a potty mouth like mine and are looking for new modes of self-expression, you will probably enjoy this sort of thing.
