Okay, one more quick one, because this is unbelievable. [via IP]
Firms Want Refunds Of Tax on Fake Profit: MCI Collects Almost $300 Million
"Some companies under investigation for fraudulently inflating their earnings over the past few years said yesterday that they have asked or may ask the Internal Revenue Service for refunds of taxes they paid on fake profits.
CI, formerly known as WorldCom Inc., has already collected nearly $300 million in overpayments from the IRS, a company spokeswoman said. The telecommunications giant's accounting irregularities total $11 billion.
Enron Corp., which concealed mountains of debt in a tangle of transactions that auditors have yet to unravel, is also talking to the IRS about past taxes, said Mark Palmer, an Enron spokesman."

A note from the editor
Just a heads up: We are entering into a busy period at work. Just how busy and for how long is yet to be determined. I am hoping for full throttle craziness = sweet sweet overtime. So. I may be posting less. I may be posting haphazardly. Lacking both rhyme and reason to all but the most seasoned of observers. Lines may be crossed, boundaries broken. Objects in mirror may be larger than they appear. Your mileage may vary. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Live long and prosper. Hasta la vista, babies. Buenos Nachos.
Word up to my baby brother who is Germany no doubt partaking of some of the many fine locally brewed beverages. Sunday is Mother's Day, you hoser. Drop and give me twenty.

Egg Troll's Guide to FPS Games (kuro5hin.org)
If you play first person shooter games with a bunch of people over the Internet, you will find this article, with a multitude of tips for increasing your online enjoyment quite droll. Even if you don't it's pretty funny.
The Jukebox -- These days many games allow you to comminicate by voice with other players. Its often overlooked that one can transmit virtually any sound to the other players! Egg Troll enjoys making the game a little more surreal by playing circus music non-stop. Its been Egg Troll's discovery that most people value hearing circus music in the middle of a firefight. Other good songs are the Meow Mix jingle, any Christmas carol sung by the Chipmunks and the audio from any pornographic film.
Some players will mute you, while others desperately wish they knew how. Yet these players are a minority and you can bask in the warm huzzahs of your teammates for brightening up their playing experience.

US NEWS: For economy, road now looks steeper.
"An already slack US economy appears to be getting weaker, prodding efforts in Washington to give it a push. The goal: to develop enough momentum that business feels confident hiring new workers - and lowering the unemployment rate, which just hit 6 percent in April." (Christian Science Monitor)

US NEWS: America's black economy is flying high
At least there is one bright spot on the economic horizon.
Marijuana, pornography and illegal labour have created a hidden market in the United States which now accounts for as much as 10% of the American economy, according to a study. As a cash crop, marijuana is believed to have outstripped maize, and hardcore porn revenue is equal to Hollywood's domestic box office takings.

WORLD NEWS: Al Qaeda may be rebuilding.
"Overall, the news on terrorism has been good. Terrorist attacks worldwide dropped by 30 percent from 2001 to 2002, according to a new State Department report.
But some intelligence sources and experts outside government believe that Al Qaeda has been quiet by choice, not because its plans have been disrupted. There is also evidence that Al Qaeda's remaining leadership believes the war in Iraq will produce a new stream of recruits disenchanted with American actions, perhaps allowing Al Qaeda to create a new front of international jihad". As I was walking up the stair
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish he'd stay away.
