It had been a long but oddly comforting trip. She'd spent so much time traveling over the last ten years that First Class felt like a second home. The routine helped keep the pain at bay.

She'd left London two weeks ago, flying into Boston in the middle of a snowstorm. Spending a few days with Faith before heading to Cleveland had helped a little, had lessened the loneliness, but hadn't extinguished it.

She didn't think she would ever feel loved again.

Renting a small sedan at the airport for the rest of the trip, she planned to pick up Willow who was accompanying her the rest of the way. Faith would catch up with them in LA the following week and Xander would meet them at the beach. They would let her go then. Just the four of them, a very private goodbye. The rest of their large extended family would have a chance to say goodbye along the way.

They'd lost others to the dark since leaving Sunnydale. Their close-knit circle had shrunk over the years. Fighting evil had never been a safe profession for any of them and every year there were fewer remaining survivors of their battle with the First. Of them all, this one hurt the most. Losing her had hurt them all to some degree. She'd been proof that they would always prevail.

She'd died doing what she did best, saving the world in defiance of yet another prophecy. Stubborn to the last, she'd refused to let anyone else go in her place.
