Coming Fall 2010
Kim stared at the registration screen, the Go University banner fluttering with some annoying 3D effect. School started in two weeks and she still had to decide which classes to register for. Sure, she wasn't technically going to attend full time and she wasn't ready to pick a major her first semester but on top of the mandatory courses all first year students took she needed to take twelve credits worth of something.
A gym class, a literature class, a math class, and a history class seemed like a good combination to get her feet wet. Literature would mean lots of reading, something she could do while traveling. An intro college algebra course seemed like something she should take. And history was literature but about real people.
As a break from her normal training schedule, for a potentially fun gym class she'd decided to take kendo. She didn't think it would directly translate into something she would use either while on missions for Team Possible or as a slayer but she felt the need for something that was both physically and mentally challenge.
Reluctantly, she clicked on the submit button and waited. Thirty seconds later she had her fall class schedule. Now she needed to tell Wade so he could schedule her missions around it.
"All set?" Ron asked from across the room. Although they weren't taking all of the same courses, they'd tried to take them at the same time. Ron's fun class was a cooking class at the university's culinary school. He was also taking a history class but in a completely different time period. Instead of the intro Egyptian history class Kim was taking, Ron had found a Japanese medieval history course he'd managed to talk his way into.
"Yup," Kim said. "Just need to go to the bookstore next week."
"Bookstore?"
"You know, that place where you hand over a shiny stack of green bills and they let you have the books you need for your classes?"
"We can't just borrow them from the library?"
"No way. What if you lost a book while on a mission? Remember what happened last time?" Kim asked.
"Oh, right." Ron looked at her hopefully. "Can we order them over the internet?"
"Nope." Kim said. "Personal appearance required."
---
"Did you know Bonnie was going to Go University?" Ron huffed, dropping his bag of books outside Kim's office before throwing himself onto her couch.
"She might have mentioned it," Kim said, going through her own books, sorting them by class as she put them on the shelf she'd designated for school.
"And you couldn't mention this to the rest of us?"
"I thought you knew."
"How?"
"Didn't you see the schedule for the training room?" Kim asked leaning against her desk. "She's reserved it a couple times a week."
"Why?" Ron asked, covering his eyes.
"Does it matter?" Kim asked. Even though he'd been to Cleveland with her, she didn't think he really understood how their new connections to the Council would affect things. Bonnie using their facilities was only a small example. Sighing at his muttered 'but it's Bonnie' she continued "We don't use it 24/7 and it gives her a safe place to train. There aren't a lot of places a slayer can work out without attracting the wrong kind of attention."
"Oh man!" Ron moaned. "Does that mean we're going to be seeing Barkin around here?"
"It's no big," Kim told him.
"No big?" Ron gasped, echoed by the distinct tones of Rufus. "Is anyone else going to be showing up?" he asked. "Dropping in on a whim?"
"Other than Shego?"
"Other than..." This time he sat up in surprise. "Doesn't she still work for Drakken?"
"Some times. The Council has her on retainer," Kim said. "I'm sure we told you this."
"Wade?" Ron said loudly. "Did you know about Shego?"
"Yes." Wade's disembodied voice echoed slightly in the room. "Kim's status in the Council gives us access to some of their assets and we agreed to let them use some of ours."
"Shego's not an asset," Ron said. "She's evil and she's wanted in more countries than, than... I can't think of anyone wanted more than she is. Right Kim?
"I don't know what to tell you," Kim said. "I know my arch foe. She's many things but not evil. And the people in the Council who matter agree with me. They wouldn't have hired her otherwise."
"What about her working for Drakken?"
"He's like her mad scientist uncle," Kim said. "She wouldn't work for him if she didn't like him. I'm hoping the Council finds enough for her to do that she doesn't have time for his crazy schemes."
"I don't like it," He grumbled.
"Hey guys?" Wade asked a few minutes later, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, Wade? What's the sitch?" Kim asked.
"How do you feel about a job Labor Day weekend?"
"The whole weekend?" Kim asked. "It's the Possible Family barbecue at my Uncle Slim's."
"And Yori was coming to visit," Ron said. "If she wants to help I'm in." He then gave Kim his own version of the puppy-dog pout.
"Yes, you and Rufus are still invited this year," Kim said with a large, fake sigh. "You can even bring Yuri. You know you're also invited, right Wade?"
"Yes," Wade said cheerfully.
"So, what kind of job are we talking about?"
"Security at a concert."
"Who asked and why us?" Kim asked, curious. "It's not our normal thing."
"It could be fun," Ron said. "Who is it?"
"Hannah Montana," Wade said.
"H'nnh, uh-huh," Rufus said.
"Is that a vote yes, lil buddy?" Ron asked. Rufus nodded yes, excitedly.
"Anything is possible for Team Possible but there aren't enough of us to do a good job at a real concert, especially for someone that popular," Kim said. "Besides, there are specialists for that kind of thing. This isn't like guarding some little ray thing in some secret lab. A little more detail would be cool."
"It's a venue issue," Wade told them. "The venue keeps rejecting their security choices and her manager left a message on the website saying a friend of the family recommended you."
"Okay. This isn't something from GJ is it?"
"Nope," Wade said. "We also had a message from Bubba. He was hoping you'd be able to straighten out the confusion over security for Hannah's concert."
"So... family friend?" Kim asked.
"Family friend," both Wade and Ron echoed.
"Okay, for Bubba I think we can at least straighten things out," Kim said. "So, what's the venue that has them so tweaked?"
"The Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland," Wade said.
"No way! Our Cleveland?" Kim asked in surprise.
"Yup."
"Have you talked with them about this yet?"
"I left a message," Wade said. "They were all in a meeting."
"Even Mr. Giles in London?" Kim asked.
"Road trip?" Ron asked eagerly. "To the land of hot Amazons?"
"'m'zons!" Rufus echoed.
"Ron!" Kim glared at her friend. "No road trip."
"Darn!" Ron said, flopping back on her couch.
"Hey Dawn!"
"Hi guys! How goes the hero business?"
"Quiet," Kim said. "Everyone's taking a break until after Labor Day."
"You have seasonal super villains?"
"All the regulars are getting old. This is their vacation month."
"So, what can I do for Team Possible?" Dawn asked.
"Labor Day concert on the Hellmouth?" Kim said.
Notes:
- Why yes, this does include another Disney crossover.
- Remember kiddies - Hannah Montana is a Disney character. She's not a real person.
